Delhi Police Constable Exam: Eligibility, Pattern and PE&MT Standards

The Staff Selection Commission (SSC) recruits Constables (Executive) for Delhi Police through an all-India computer-based exam, followed by a physical test conducted by Delhi Police. This guide explains the eligibility rules, exam pattern, physical standards and selection steps using the official notice for the most recent completed cycle, the Constable (Executive) Male and Female in Delhi Police Examination, 2025, and shows how to use it to prepare for the next one.

The 2025 notice was published by SSC on 22 September 2025. We did not find a 2026 notice when this guide was checked on 9 October 2026, so treat the figures below as the latest official baseline and confirm them against the next notice on ssc.gov.in.

Eligibility

  • Nationality: citizen of India.
  • Age: 18 to 25 years as on 1 July 2025 (born not earlier than 2 July 2000 and not later than 1 July 2007).
  • Age relaxations (examples): 5 years for SC/ST, 3 years for OBC; up to 29 years for sons and daughters of serving, retired or deceased Delhi Police personnel or Delhi Police multi-tasking staff; higher limits for departmental candidates and ex-servicemen as listed in the notice.
  • Education: Class 12 (Senior Secondary) pass from a recognised board, by the cut-off date. The notice relaxes this to Class 11 for certain categories, such as wards of Delhi Police personnel.
  • Driving licence (male candidates): a valid LMV licence (motorcycle or car) on the date of the physical test; a learner's licence is not accepted.

There is negative marking of 0.25 for each wrong answer. Because the exam runs in many shifts, SSC normalises marks before shortlisting.

Bonus marks

The notice gives bonus marks, added in the final result for candidates who produce valid certificates at the physical test or document verification stage:

  • NCC certificate: 'C' – 5%, 'B' – 3%, 'A' – 2% of the maximum marks of the exam (not available to ex-servicemen).
  • Degree or postgraduate diploma from the Rashtriya Raksha University: 2% to 5% depending on class obtained.

Physical Endurance and Measurement Test (PE&MT)

The PE&MT is conducted by Delhi Police and is qualifying. Race comes first; only those who pass the race attempt the long jump and high jump (three chances each).

CandidatesAgeRace: 1,600 mLong jumpHigh jump

FemaleUp to 308 minutes10 feet3'
FemaleAbove 30 to 409 minutes9 feet2'9"
FemaleAbove 4010 minutes8 feet2'6"

Measurements: male candidates need a minimum height of 170 cm and chest of 81 cm with at least 4 cm expansion (81–85 cm); female candidates need a minimum height of 157 cm. The notice allows relaxations for residents of specified hill areas and states, ST candidates, SC/ST candidates (female height) and wards of Delhi Police personnel, on production of the required certificate.

What the 2025 result tells you

SSC's result notice of 19 June 2026 set minimum qualifying marks in the CBE (normalised, without NCC bonus) at 35 for UR, 30 for SC/ST/OBC/EWS and 25 for ex-servicemen. Shortlisting for PE&MT went well above these minimums. The normalised marks of the last candidate shortlisted in some categories were:

CategoryMale (open)Female
UR70.0563.53
OBC70.0563.06
EWS68.5561.56
SC62.8454.60
ST60.0849.07

These are shortlisting marks for the PE&MT stage of the 2025 cycle, not final cut-offs, and they will differ in future cycles.

Worked example: scoring with negative marking

An illustrative calculation using the 2025 pattern (1 mark per question, −0.25 per wrong answer):

  • A candidate attempts 84 questions, with 70 correct and 14 wrong.
  • Score = 70 − (14 × 0.25) = 70 − 3.5 = 66.5 out of 100 (before normalisation).

Compare this with the last-shortlisted marks above: the same candidate would have been close to the line in some categories and comfortably above it in others. The practical takeaway is that 3–4 marks lost to careless guessing can matter at this level of competition.

A preparation plan built on the pattern

Checklist before you apply next time

  • Check your date of birth against the window in the new notice.
  • Confirm your Class 12 result will be declared before the cut-off date.
  • Male candidates: obtain a permanent LMV licence well before the physical test.
  • Keep NCC or other bonus-mark certificates and any relaxation certificates in the prescribed format.
  • Measure your height and chest honestly and train for the 1,600 m race.

Delhi Police Constable selection rewards a strong general-knowledge base, accuracy in the CBE and physical fitness. Prepare all three together, and rely on the official SSC notice for the dates and vacancies of your cycle.
