Bihar Government Jobs 2026: BPSC, BSSC and CSBC Recruitment Status

Bihar has some of the largest state recruitments in India, and 2026 is no exception: the Bihar Public Service Commission (BPSC) has a teacher recruitment of 32,388 posts open in October 2026 and an integrated combined competitive examination for 1,187 posts, while the Bihar Staff Selection Commission (BSSC) and the Central Selection Board of Constable (CSBC) run their own large recruitments.

Whether a Bihar government job is a good choice for you depends on which of these fits your qualification, how the domicile rules apply to you, and how you handle dates that often move. This guide sets out the official position on each, from the bodies' own notices.

Checked against bpsc.bihar.gov.in, bssc.bihar.gov.in and csbc.bihar.gov.in on 9 October 2026. Most notices are in Hindi; the summaries are our translations.

The 72nd CCE: how it works

Stages: a preliminary examination, a Main written examination and a personality test.

  • Preliminary: one General Studies objective paper, 150 marks, 2 hours. Each question has five options (A–E); if you do not want to answer, you must mark option E. BPSC deducts one-third of a mark for each wrong answer, and an unanswered question with no option marked attracts the same deduction. About 10 times the vacancies are called to the Main.
  • Main: General Hindi (100 marks; 30% needed, but not counted for merit), General Studies Paper 1 (300), General Studies Paper 2 (300) and Essay (300), plus a qualifying optional subject paper (100 marks, objective) that is not counted for merit.
  • Personality test: 120 marks. Final merit is out of 900 + 120 = 1,020.

Minimum qualifying marks at the preliminary and Main stages are 40% for General, 36.5% for BC, 34% for EBC, and 32% for SC, ST, women and persons with disabilities.

Age on 1 August 2026: the maximum is 37 for unreserved men, 40 for unreserved women and for BC/EBC men and women, and 42 for SC/ST men and women, with 10 more years for persons with disabilities. The minimum is 20, 21 or 22 depending on the post.

Worked example: the option-E rule

Illustrative only. Suppose each preliminary question carries 1 mark and you answer 120 questions, leave 25 with option E marked, and forget to mark anything for 5:

  • 96 right and 24 wrong: 96 − (24 × 1/3) = 96 − 8 = 88
  • 5 questions with no option marked: a further 5 × 1/3 = 1.67 deducted
  • Net: 88 − 1.67 = 86.33

The 25 questions marked E cost nothing. Practise darkening option E in your mock tests, so a blank never costs you marks on the day. Check the marks per question in your question booklet; the method is the same.

Domicile and reservation rules

The 72nd CCE advertisement states that:

  • the benefit of reservation is available only to original residents (मूल निवासी) of Bihar;
  • candidates who are residents of other states do not get reservation benefits; and
  • under General Administration Department Resolution No. 12575 dated 9 July 2025, the 35% horizontal reservation for women is available only to women who are original residents of the state, including those in the unreserved category.

For school teachers, the TRE 4.0 advertisement adds a rule from an Education Department notification of 5 August 2025: 40% of the vacancies are to be filled by candidates who passed matriculation or intermediate from educational institutions located in Bihar. Read the advertisement for how this applies to candidates from undivided Bihar.

Teacher recruitment (TRE 4.0) in brief

The TRE 4.0 advertisement covers posts across school levels, including 3,847 posts for classes 1–5, 8,563 for classes 6–8 and 16,101 for classes 11–12. It describes an objective examination of 150 questions for 150 marks in 2.5 hours, with a qualifying language part and a one-third penalty for wrong answers, and refers to teacher eligibility requirements such as STET. BPSC's calendar says the exam date will be announced after the application period.
