Leo D’Souza, Mangaluru’s Mendel who worked to transform cashew industry

Fr. Leo D'Souza, a Jesuit priest, established one of India's earliest plant tissue culture labs and made significant contributions to the cashew industry. He helped crack the process of cashew micropropagation, including developing a test-tube cashew tree that could be transplanted into soil. His work fused rigorous science with public purpose, shaping the careers of women scientists and improving the lives of vulnerable communities.
